Barr Launches Generic Fosamax® Tablets, 70 mg
Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc.  announced today that its subsidiary, Barr Laboratories, Inc., has launched a generic version of Merck & Co., Inc.'s Fosamax® (Alendronate Sodium) Tablets, 70 mg after receiving final approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

When Mixing Medications Can Be Deadly
Patients are often woefully unaware of the potential serious consequences of the additive effects of prescription medications. Although it is often unclear from toxicology reports whether a death by prescription drugs was intentional or not, "frequently, medical examiners find multiple drugs in toxicology reports of people that died of drug overdoses," says Leonard Paulozzi, a medical epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Injury Center who researches prescription-medication poisonings.

Sweet drinks linked to surge in gout amongst men
A surge in the painful joint condition called gout among American men is linked to a rise in drinking sodas and other sugary soft drinks, a study published Friday suggests. In an unusually long-term study, more than 51,000 male dentists, pharmacists and veterinarians aged 40 years or more in the United States and Canada filled in questionnaires on their health, weight, medications and diet, and updated the information every two years thereafter.
