Children Double Use of Diabetes Medicines, Study Says
American children doubled their use of diabetes drugs from 2002 to 2005, driven mostly by a surge in obesity, researchers said.
Rising diabetes levels among kids helped boost the market to $11 billion last year from $8 billion in 2003 and Donny Wong, an analyst at the market research firm Decision Resources, said it may reach $20 billion by 2017. More kids also use medicines for asthma, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and depression, according to a study reported today.

FDA Approves Generic Zyrtec
US Food and Drug Administration has granted tentative approval for the Caraco's Abbreviated New Drug Application for Cetirizine HCL, 5mg and 10mg Immediate Release tablets. Final approval to market this product is anticipated subsequent to the expiry of patent protection in December 25, 2007.

FDA Approves Over-The-Counter Zyrtec
The Food and Drug Administration approved Johnson & Johnson's popular allergy medicine Zyrtec for over-the-counter use.
Originally cleared in 2001 as a prescription medication, the FDA action makes Zyrtec available without a doctor's note to treat allergy symptoms.
